Spelling words this week will focus on the long /a/ sound. They include: play, may, stay, grain, rain, pain, sail, way, paint, mail, day, and spray. Our spelling test are held every Friday morning.

In reading, students will change sounds in words by evaluating their phonemic awareness, use high-frequency words (sight words) in sentences, critique both fiction and non-fictional texts, and critique words with the long /a/, /ai/, and /ay/sounds. Students will also summarize the major events in a narrative.

This week in writing, students will be identifying months, days, and years. They will also learn that each begins with a capital letter.

In mathematics, students will review time to the hour and half-hour, review the math calendar, and they will also use concrete and pictorial models to represent two-digit numbers.

This week in Social Studies we will be dicussing holidays and when they take place.

**SPECIAL NOTE: We are beginning to plan our spring field trip. Please let me know if you'd be interested in assiting/chaperoning our trip. Thank you! We are also in need of shoeboxes for our Valentine's Day party.
